Het lijkt bijna een droom, maar het is werkelijkheid. In de minor International Class gebeurt dit gewoon. En ik kan je vertellen: ‘Het is geweldig!!’ De buitenlandse studenten zijn voor drie maanden in Nederland. Van een van de buitenlandse studenten ben je een buddy. Je mag vragen beantwoorden als ‘waar kan ik beltegoed kopen’ en je bezoekt samen basisscholen.

Je communiceert in het Engels. Alle lessen worden in het Engels geven. Misschien maakt dat je bang, maar don’t worry. Waar kan leer je nu het meeste van; juist, van de praktijk!

Als klapper op de vuurpijl mag je zelf naar het buitenland. Daar ga je je afstudeeronderzoek doen. Ben jij echt een typ voor de bushes of pak je liever alles groot aan en ga je naar Amerika; it’s up to you! Everything is possible.

Weet je, ik kan wel door blijven typen over deze minor, maar je moet het gewoon zelf beleven!! Een ding is zeker; je krijgt er nooit spijt van!!

Het internationale gezelschap op een Hollandse molen

No matter how prepared you think you are for different cultures, you always get surprises. I am glad to say that in my case they were all good surprises, I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones for who culture shock is pleasant.

We are so different, coming from 7 countries and 4 continents with our different background, cultural and religious but at the same time it is surprisingly easy to find the common voice, to listen, respect and most of all accept each other for what we are and who we are.

For most of us it’s refreshing to be students again, I find it useful to change perspective and be the one who sits and listens and not the one who does the hard work (and, of course, my students at home like the idea of me having the same status as they). However, day after day we experience that learning and teaching in the Netherlands doesn’t mean the same thing as in our countries. Sometimes we find it exciting and we profit of the chances other times we are overwhelmed by reading and assignments. Whichever the case we have our Dutch buddies to ask to rely on. If we need help, direction, a bike or some fun activities for the weekend we can turn to them and we can always be sure that they are there and ready to help.
